I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests, Excellencies, Ministers, Government Officials, Thought Leaders, Speakers, Global Buyers, Sellers, Travel Bloggers, Friends of the Media, and Delegates from around the world. It is my great pleasure to address you on behalf of the Government of Nepal as we gather here for the 4th Himalayan Travel Mart (HTM 2023) in the vibrant and historic city of Kathmandu, Nepal, from June 6th to 9th, 2023.

We are deeply honored to host this prestigious event, which has evolved into a prominent platform for promoting tourism in Nepal and the entire Himalayan region. Nepal proudly stands as the “Gateway to the Himalayas,” and we are excited to showcase our nation’s diverse offerings to the global travel community.

Tourism holds a rightful place as a “Priority Industry” in Nepal. Our country is blessed with unparalleled natural beauty, cultural heritage, adventure tourism products, and genuine services. Furthermore, the warmth and hospitality of our people provide travelers with unforgettable lifetime experiences tailored to their needs and interests.

However, we acknowledge that we have yet to fully tap into the immense potential of our tourism industry. To address this, we have made tourism our top priority. We are investing in infrastructure development, embracing digital technology, prioritizing sustainability and social responsibility, and inviting the global community to invest in various sectors. Tourism, with its low investment requirements, high returns, and minimal environmental impact, presents multifarious opportunities for investors and visitors in Nepal.

Nepal, nestled between the emerging economic giants of India and China, boasts unique natural beauty and a warm and friendly population. Yet, we must also recognize the urgent reality of the global climate crisis. Nepal has a crucial role to play in addressing this challenge by focusing on regenerative tourism, community engagement, and positioning Nepal as a conscious destination. Additionally, Nepal holds the distinction of being the birthplace of Lord Buddha, representing a spiritual awakening and exemplifying our unity in diversity. From our breathtaking landscapes, including majestic mountains, rivers, and national parks, to our diverse flora and fauna, Nepal offers an array of attractions that cater to the desires of mindful travelers.

The government of Nepal is fully committed to supporting the travel industry, improving infrastructure, and empowering entrepreneurs to provide competitive services, ensuring that Nepal stands as a globally competitive and unique travel destination.

While Nepal has gained worldwide recognition as an adventure tourism destination, it is important to emphasize that this is merely the tip of the iceberg. Our country possesses an abundance of tangible and intangible treasures, encompassing rich cultural heritage, stunning art and architecture, pilgrimage sites, yoga and meditation retreats, holistic wellness centers, and much more. Throughout the year, visitors are enticed by the allure of these diverse offerings.

In the aftermath of the global pandemic, the concerted efforts and global collaboration of the PATA Nepal Chapter, Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Airlines, and other prominent associations have been instrumental. With their unwavering commitment, we firmly believe that the Himalayan Travel Mart will continue to set a new benchmark for post-pandemic tourism recovery, marketing, and promotion of Nepal’s tourism sector. The HTM serves as an excellent platform for stakeholders in the tourism industry to converge, exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore innovative ways to further enhance the growth of this highly promising sector.

I extend my warm wishes to all participants for a productive and fruitful event. Let us join hands together to work towards our common goals to achieve sustainable and responsible tourism development, not only in Nepal but throughout the entire Himalayan region and the world over.
